Biography
Carl Zimmerman grew up in Hamilton, Ontario and moved to Nova Scotia in 1974 after briefly attending McMaster University and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. He currently lives in Marble Mountain, Nova Scotia.

His work has been shown internationally and nationally, at venues that include the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the Sternberk Installation Symposium, Czech Republic, The Photographer's Gallery, Milan, the National Arts Centre, Ottawa, the Art Gallery of Hamilton, Beaverbrook Art Gallery, the Art Gallery of Windsor, Confederation Centre Art Gallery and the CONTACT Photography Festival in Toronto. His national touring exhibition Landmarks of Industrial Britain co-sponsored by the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and Dunlop Gallery, Regina toured Canada from 2006 to 2008.

Recent awards include grants from the Canada Council, the Pollack/Krasner Foundation and a residency at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin in 2001. His work has been represented or reviewed in art publications and journals including Carte Blanche, a definitive survey of contemporary Canadian photography, Canadian Art, Sculpture, CV photo, BorderCrossings, C Magazine, and Arts Atlantic. He is represented in numerous public and private collections, including the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the Canada Council Art Bank, Art Gallery of Hamilton, Museum London, Owens Art Gallery, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and Confederation Centre Art Gallery.
