Stephen Bulger (b. January 7, 1964, Toronto) has been engaged in photography since his youth, and studied the history of the medium at Ryerson University’s School of Image Arts. In 1990 he was the founding Manager of the Ryerson Gallery (located at 80 Spadina Avenue, Toronto), and a member of their exhibition review committee, producing over thirty exhibitions. Upon graduating from Ryerson in 1991, he worked at the Ontario College of Art and Design as a technician in the photography department. After much planning, he opened Stephen Bulger Gallery on March 23, 1995 at 700 Queen Street West in Toronto. In 2003 the gallery moved to its current location at 1026 Queen Street West. Stephen Bulger has been the representative for numerous Canadian and International photographers, published catalogues and books, and curated over 120 exhibitions. The gallery has participated in many North American and European art fairs. Stephen Bulger is the First Vice President of the Board for the Association of International of Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD), which is based in Washington, D.C. He is also co-founder and current member of the Board of CONTACT, Toronto’s photography festival which will celebrate its thirteenth annual event in May 2009. |
