Max Dean | I'm Late, I'm Late

5 - 26 March 2016

Reception for the Artist: Saturday, March 5, 2-5pm

Exhibition Dates: March 5 - March 26, 2016

The gallery is pleased to present "I'm Late, I'm Late," our first solo exhibition of work by multidisciplinary Canadian artist Max Dean.

Establishing a metaphor between the gallery and his studio, Max Dean plots the journey of his ideas from inception to realization.  The gallery is open and full of potential; a space where anything might happen. His studio and mind are places of possibilities and playfulness. Both are places in between and whose primary purpose is to provide connections. Come and join Dean's journey to the edge of his jungle, ride along perilous mountain roads, walk to the edge of cliffs, and cross vast bodies of water teaming with ravenous creatures. This series of photographs - part puzzle, part game - allows the viewer to participate in the artist's creative process.

Dean is an artist who works with ideas, concepts and emotions visually. His kinetic and interactive sculptural installations are exhibited and collected internationally. Trained as an art historian, his work reflects his comfort and ingenuity in working and mixing both digital and analog technologies. Max is a recent recipient of the Governor General's Award for Excellence in the Visual Arts.

His work has been written about in publications such as The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail,

Artnet Magazine, The Boston Globe and The New York Times. Dean has been awarded the Gershorn Isowitz Award, Joan Chalmers Award, Governor General's Award for Excellence in the Visual Arts and the Project Award from Toronto Friends of the Visual Arts. He has received grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council, and the Manitoba Arts Council.  His photographs have been internationally exhibited, and his work is included in the collections of Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto; Mendel Art Gallery, Saskatoon; Ottawa Art Gallery; Vancouver Art Gallery; Winnipeg Art Gallery; and the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa.
