Larry Fink

9 - 30 May 2026

Stephen Bulger Gallery is pleased to present a selection of works by American photographer Larry Fink (b. 1941 New York, NY; d. 2023, Martins Creek, PA) on display in our Reading Room Gallery. This exhibition is in celebration of an exhibition of his work at The Image CentreToronto Metropolitan Universityentitled Larry Fink: Social Graces & Runway from May 6 until August 1, 2026.

Fink briefly studied at Coe College and The New School and trained privately with Lisette Model. Early on, he immersed himself in Beat culture, photographing artists and developing a lifelong passion for jazz.

In the 1970s, he documented both elite Manhattan nightlife and rural life in Pennsylvania, culminating in his landmark series Social Graces (1979), noted for its empathy and dramatic flash photography style. His work led to major editorial assignments with publications like Vanity Fair, The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, and GQ, and he spent decades teaching at institutions including Yale and NYU.

Fink received numerous honours, including Guggenheim Fellowships and the ICP Infinity Award. He published nearly 30 books and died in 2023, with a final monograph released posthumously in 2024. His work is held in major museum collections worldwide.

Fink’s archive is now owned by MUUS Collection, a private collection of American 20th century photography.
