28 April - 8 May 2022

Gabor Szilasi in attendance: May 5, 2022, 4-7pm

Exhibition dates: April 28 – May 8, 2022

The Stephen Bulger Gallery is pleased to present a reception, Reading Room exhibition, and book signing with gallery artist Gabor Szilasi in celebration of “Gabor”, a documentary of the life and career of the artist, directed by Joannie Lafrenière and premiering at the 2022’s Hot Docs Festival.

“Gabor” playfully captures Lafrenière’s friendship with the 94-year-old social documentary photographer Gabor Szilasi. In a series of encounters, Lafrenière accompanies Gabor as he revisits the places, past and present, that have shaped him. From his home in Montreal, they travel to rural Quebec, a region Gabor photographed extensively in the 60s and 70s and where he created some of his most memorable portraits.

A selection of books by Gabor Szilasi will be available for purchase at the book signing event, including The Art World in Montreal, 1960 – 1980 (McGill-Queen's University Press, 2019), The Eloquence of the Everyday (National Gallery of Canada, 2019), and Famille (Visual Arts Centre and McClure Gallery, 2008).
